Questions & Answers

Q. Why do we use a Theme or Signature tune?

A. We use a Theme or Signature tune because it gives listeners chance to find the Live Page or Player and to load it. Being an Internet Radio Station it takes time to find and load the necessary page/player. The Sig tune gives the necessary time and makes sure that the listeners don't miss the start of the show which is important in the case of the show being a "Special". Though there are notifications sent out when the station goes live it does take time for these notifications to reach the listeners who are following the station.

Q. What's the difference between a Theme tune and a Signature tune?

A. A Theme tune is "Show" specific i.e. "A Country Mile" has its own Theme tune which doesn't get replaced by the Presenter. Shows that have a specific Theme tune cannot have that Theme tune replaced by the Presenter irrespective of whom may be presenting that show.

A Signature tune is Presenter specific and that the Presenter can use his/her Sig tune when there's no show specific Theme tune i.e. "Lunch At Noon" doesn't have a specific Theme tune.

Q. What if the show is "AutoDJ"?

A. We have a selection of generic Theme tunes for shows that don't have a specific Theme tune. Where a show has got its own Theme tune then we use that Theme tune rather than a generic tune.

Q. What does "AUTO" mean when it appears next to the show title in square [ ] brackets?

A. The square brackets [ ] carry information about the show. The information can be anything but usually it will be "AUTO" which means the music will play automatically. During an "AUTO" show there isn't anyone present watching the Live Page, but there is someone monitoring the broadcast ready to intervene if a technicality should cause the show to stop or go Off Air. Other things you may see in the square brackets are: PART AUTO, VINYL, REPEAT, or any other combination. No square brackets means there's a Presenter and that the Presenter will give the show information live On Air.

Q. Do we interact with listeners on the Live Page?

A. Yes we do, but sadly this is limited to those who have registered  for a free Mixlr account and have chosen a user name (usually a nickname but sometimes their real name). We encourage the usage of tags etc rather than your real name unless you are comfortable with using your real name. For now you can register at https://perivale-sound-radio.mixlr.com/

Early in 2026 we are looking to change our Live Page Servers and this information is likely to change. This interaction is only available when there's a Presenter in the chair. We cannot interact with those whose names we cannot see. You don't have to register and you are welcome to listen without registering. BUT you should remember that if you want to interact with other listeners or the studio you will need to register. It is FREE.

Q. Do we have a Facebook page or group?

A. We are on Facebook and you can access our Facebook Group Page by clicking the blue circled "f" at the bottom of this page and on the Home Page. On the Group Page you can find details of cancelled broadcasts, interesting items (please read the Group rules if you join the group) and post items of interest (Please follow the guidance in the rules). You can also find a copy of our schedules there

Q. Can you download a copy of the schedule?

A. IF you are a private user with NO commercial contact or interests or other non PRIVATE user then yes you can. Copyright remains in place for any other non private use/user. IF you are a non private user you should seek permission to download our copyrighted material. You can contact us at admin@perivale-sound-radio.com

Q. Do we allow copying, recording or re-broadcasting of our shows?

A. The short answer is NO. You need our permission to use our copyrighted broadcasts. Unless you have a legitimate interest and pay for a licence you will usually get refused. You must NOT record, copy or rebroadcast our broadcasts without our written permission. You may contact us at: admin@perivale-sound-radio.com

Q. Do we take requests during a broadcast?

A. No. Requests need our prior agreement as some broadcasts aren't chaired by a Presenter and are impossible to add a request to. A show which carries [AUTO] or similar  wording except [VINYL] usually means the show has been predetermined and cannot be interrupted. A show marked as "vinyl" has a limited amount of time for Presenter interaction. To be safe contact us with the details but please wait for a reply which will give you the information you need before you make your request. Please send an Email to: admin@perivale-sound-radio.com

Q. Why do we type "Goodnight..." and "Thanks..." on the Live Page at the end of our broadcasting day?

A. Some of our listeners do not use English as their first language. By typing the goodnight etc on the Live Page gives them chance to copy and paste the words into a language translator. Many people listen to foreign language broadcasts because they might like the music, they might want to listen to how certain languages are spoken or to brush up their learning of a new language. For whatever reason they listen, we like to cater for those who want to copy and paste the words into a translator when English is not their first language.

Q. Why do we broadcast a piece of music at the beginning of our broadcast day?

A. Because many listeners are not based in the UK or even in the same time zone we play an opening piece of music to allow listeners to find the station and to load our Live Page or to use the player which is found on the Home Page. Some listeners who are new to us may not get any notifications about us "Going Live". Some randomly search for music to listen to or use the schedule for our broadcasting times. Having an opening piece of music announces that we're about to start our broadcasts.

Q. Why do we broadcast a piece of music at the end of our broadcasting day (Closedown)?

A. Whilst we have finished our scheduled show(s) some listeners join the Live Page during the music. Had we NOT played it they may not have found us. Because of different time zones it is easy to get confused about the correct time we use. In winter (last Sunday in October) we use Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) In Summer (last Sunday in March) We use British Summer Time (BST). Playing a closedown piece of music allows late comers to still find us and also to indicate we are going Off Air.
